Spreading Joy at God’s Grace Maternity & Child Welfare Clinic, Yemetu

When the Damilola Orioke Foundation team stepped into God’s Grace Maternity & Child Welfare Clinic in Yemetu, the name of the facility already felt like a blessing. The small but bustling clinic is a lifeline for many expectant mothers in the community, and on the day of our visit, it was alive with the quiet hum of new beginnings.

Unlike the larger teaching hospital we had visited earlier, God’s Grace felt intimate. The wards were modest, the staff knew each patient by name, and there was an atmosphere of family and familiarity. This setting gave our outreach an especially personal touch. We weren’t just delivering items; we were stepping into a space where every baby’s arrival is celebrated like a family event.

Our team arrived with packs of Pampers, baby wipes, detergents, antiseptic liquid, bathing soap, socks, clothes clips and other toiletries neatly arranged. Each bag we handed over was more than a collection of products—it was a sign to these mothers that they are seen, loved and supported.

One mother cradling her newborn twins could hardly contain her tears as volunteers placed two gift packages by her bedside. Another, still recovering from a long labour, broke into a soft smile as we congratulated her and spoke encouraging words. For us, these moments are why we do what we do: a chance to share joy at one of life’s most vulnerable and beautiful times.

We also made it a point to interact warmly with the nurses and matrons who run the clinic. Their dedication was obvious; even with limited resources they moved swiftly and compassionately from one patient to another. We listened as they shared some of their daily challenges—lack of supplies, long hours—and we offered not just our thanks but a token of appreciation to acknowledge their tireless service. Seeing their faces brighten reminded us that encouragement is as vital as any donation.

Beyond giving out items, we spent time sitting with mothers and families, answering questions about hygiene, newborn care and emotional recovery after childbirth. Some of our volunteers prayed quietly with mothers who wanted it; others simply held their babies and offered words of hope. By the end of the visit, the clinic felt warmer, calmer, and filled with shared smiles.

As we left God’s Grace Maternity & Child Welfare Clinic, we carried with us a renewed sense of purpose. Outreach isn’t just about delivering goods—it’s about creating bonds, affirming dignity and reminding people they are not alone. The mothers had their hands full with new life, the nurses had their hearts full of service, and we left with our own hearts full of gratitude for being part of their story.

This third visit marked another milestone in our mission at the Damilola Orioke Foundation. Each hospital, each mother, and each newborn reinforces our belief that small, consistent acts of kindness can ripple outward to strengthen an entire community. God’s Grace truly lived up to its name that day, and we were humbled to be part of it.
