Climate Change Adaptation
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.
Our mission is to promote sustainable human development of youths and women by connecting them to knowledge experience and resources necessary to increase their quality of life and environment.
The core activities of the organization are youth and women’s economic empowerment and environment management.
The Project Summary
Connecting Hearts of Women Initiative has been involved in environmental management for 4 years with about 40 government schools in Ibadan South East local government in Oyo State in collaboration with Bim’s Living gardens – a horticultural firm, we have planted 400 trees in 40 secondary schools in Ibadan. Yearly, on children’s day, we visit 10 schools. Taking our campaign Plant a Tree and Save the Earth to schools in the suburbs, we educate them on climate change and how they can help as young people to combat it by physical planting of trees in the school. In addition to environmental management, we have been involved in capacity building such as skill acquisition training for less privileged women. This Corporate Social Responsibility of the organization was able to attract funding from the Small Grant Programme to further reach more schools.
The goal of the project is to promote planting of economic trees to address environmental problems in 12 secondary, build capacity to raise and plant 100 each of Dongoyaro, almond fruit tree, orange, grape and gmelina trees and to expand irrigation facilities to support tree nurseries in schools. These trees will slow down erosion, act as windbreaks, reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air, enhance aesthetics and create a source of income to address other needs of the school. There will also be awareness created on climate change in the 12 secondary secondary schools, the effect it has on the environment and how they can help to preserve the environment. Five hundred trees will be planted in each school. A nursery. Each school will be provided with one deep well totaling 12.
This project covers a period of 24 months. At the end of the project;
– 9,600 pupils in 12 schools would have access to portable water
– Increased income generation of N75,000 for each school farm sale of tree seedlings
– 10% increased awareness on climate change mitigation strategies
– 6,000 trees planted and 6,000 trees raised will serve as shade, wind breaker and provide
purer air.
– Fruits produced from the trees will serve nutrition needs of pupils
– Establishing of 12 climate change clubs for the sustenance of this gospel.
We hope to further take this project to the 33 local governments in Oyo State to ensure that mother earth is preserved for the future generation.
